Priority Overview

Below are all of our strategy priorities. Each has a progress bar showing the overall progress our team has made towards achieving their goals. Please click through to each priority to see the things we're working on and check back periodically to see updates on our completed projects

Priority 1

Building strong communities for our diverse student body to belong.

Priority One

Building strong communities for our diverse student body to belong; championing equality.

Here are some things we’re doing to work towards achieving this priority

Work with our external stakeholders, such as the university, local council and emergency services to support a wide sense of belonging

Ensure the university understands the importance of what the Students’ Union does to aid belonging at Winchester

Continually lobby for improvements in equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI)

Increase the visibility of existing services and initiative that promote student engagement and belonging

Make sure there are community spaces and events on campus, in particular making the Union a hub for students.

Ensure the content that we produce, whether it is online or physical is accessible and promotes the wide range of student voices in our membership

Priority Two

Here are some things we’re doing to work towards achieving this priority

Connect with a range of student demographics to understand and effectively address the needs of a diverse range of students

Work independently and in collaboration with the University to enhance services that enable students to recognise and celebrate their involvement

Feature the voices of students who deliver and benefit from peer-to-peer support in our communications.

Use our wellbeing initiatives to increase the amount and quality of peer-to-peer welfare support.

Empower students through a variety of programmes designed to enhance their life skills and support their personal and professional development.

Empowering our student leaders and volunteers, through suitable skills development, and reward & recognition, to have the best experience in their role.

Continually improve the quality and volume of training given to student leaders

Promote constructive feedback from student leaders

Developing our physical and online presence including website and social media channels; be accessible, be where students are.

Here are some things we’re doing to work towards achieving this priority

Enhance and update the online presence of our work across all zones, while simultaneously increasing in-person provision where needed.

Continue to provide students with resources via our website, ensuring we involve a diverse range of students in our content generation.

Ensure all printed media and digital content is accessible to all students

Increase the range of online resources available to students

Priority Five

Representing our members - ensuring authentic student voice is sought, heard and actioned at all levels within both the Students' Union and University.

Here are some things we’re doing to work towards achieving this priority

Increase the volume of feedback gathered from students across all feedback methods

Provide students with opportunities to communicate with their officers and the local community through a range of channels.

We are transparent in our communications, ensuring students know they’ve been heard and what the outcomes are

Seek feedback in different ways to ensure all student demographics are heard

We will ensure authentic student voice is heard by the university

Priority Six

Ensuring our members understand what we do and how to access our opportunities, services and support.

Here are some things we’re doing to work towards achieving this priority

Students know who their officers are and are able to feedback to them directly

Students see us as a vital part of their student journey throughout university

Students clearly know the routes to access our services and when they’re open or available

Build partnerships at all levels of the university to promote our services

All our communications have a clear call to action

Priority Seven

Proactively gather feedback from student leaders, activity groups and student staff

Here are some things we’re doing to work towards achieving this priority

Support and facilitate new opportunities for communication with our staff, students, and officers.

Where we action feedback or are unable to action feedback, we tell students how and why

Continually review the best way to gather student feedback, ensuring are balance between quality and quantity of feedback

Increase the volume of feedback gathered from students across all feedback methods

Priority Eight

Increase collaborations with our student representatives conducting case studies, and research relating to their collective feedback.

Here are some things we’re doing to work towards achieving this priority

Widely promote our feedback collection mechanisms, ensuring we continuously evaluate the effectiveness and seek to increase the reach of these initiatives.

Provide and implement opportunities for students to input into their student experience, including the academic landscape, and actively engage with their Executive Committee.

Ensure a success measure for all campaigns and projects is reach and impact.

Ensuring our members understand that spend in our commercial activity supports the whole Students' Union (as a not-for-profit organisation).

Here are some things we’re doing to work towards achieving this priority

Increase the number of students that engage with our commercial services

Utilise our commercial spaces to serve a variety of student needs and generate Union income.

Improve student voice in commercial services and by doing so, we're providing what students want

Actively and consistently promote our not-for-profit status through targeted campaigns and communications.

Our members understand what money spent across our commercial activities goes towards, Promoted with clear pmaterials, signage, digital platforms, and in-person messaging.

Improving collaboration and partnerships with the University to achieve the best experience for students.

Here are some things we’re doing to work towards achieving this priority

Reframe our interactions with the University to ensure we promote the interests of students, clearly communicating student feedback and ensuring accountability.

Improve and increase collaborations with the University on joint campaigns and initiatives to improve student experience.

Ensure our officers and staff are represented on all practicable university committees, and that our officers are empowered to provide authentic student voice to the university.

Celebrate and benefit from our communication with University Executive Leadership Team, connecting them with ongoing student projects and opportunities for them to engage directly with students
