Here at Winchester Student Union, we understand the stress of the current cost of living crisis. We’ve put together fortnightly spotlights with tips and tricks to help save your pennies.
With the days getting longer, and the sun starting to shine, many of us are looking forward to summer. For student’s summer can be a chance to make some extra money and get some work experience for your CV. It can be daunting looking for summer work, so this spotlight focuses on how to find a role that suits you and your ambitions.
The first step is to work on your CV. Make sure it’s up to date with your achievements for the year, and what you want to gain from working. You can include a short personal statement on your CV to highlight this to potential employers. You can state what type of work you’re looking for. I.e., full time, part time, weekends only, evenings only, remote working etc.
The next step is to start applying! There’s plenty of websites that you can use to search for a job, including Indeed, Reed, and Monster. The university also shares jobs that are ideal for students. It may be worth speaking to the university’s Careers Team to discuss the roles available for summer. Or there are also sites where you can upload your CV for recruiters to look at. CV Library is a great place to start. Potential employers may also try and take a look at your LinkedIn, so make sure that’s updated too!
This will be our last Cost of Living Spotlight for this academic year. Well done on everything you’ve achieved this year, no matter how big or small! The Cost of Living Spotlights will be here to welcome you back in September, have a great summer!
