The Students’ Union were impressed by the passionate response this SUggestion received from students, and is keen to explore a future for alternative music nights at Winchester. Our Head of Operations is currently in discussion with Eddie and a range of other stakeholders to find a path forward for a regular event night, with some form of event projected to begin in Semester 2. Thank you again for everyone’s contributions. Watch this space for further updates!
Hello,
We've had lots of interest in bringing back CAD, or a similar alternative night, so the idea would be to bring back an alternative night to the SU :)
We have collected 73 student signatures/names, for people who are interested in an alternative night, I have attached the pictures of these signatures/names.

pls bring back CAD! it served as a beautiful safe space for alternative people! these spaces are important as they provide solace from judgement, anxiety and gives us a space to express ourselves freely with other likeminded people. BOP cannot give us that as being alternative is an unspoken acknowledgement of shared values and shared experiences that benefit not only ourselves but also the world we continue to live in. Being alternative has shaped me as a person- it i will never be just my fashion to me, being alternative serves as a badge for me to say that i will fight for the lives of others just as hard as i fought to stay alive in the worst of times. CAD provided a space for me to connect with other people who understood that. It has also opened my eyes to other people and cultures that I wouldn’t usually connect with but i could because CAD allowed me to. Other events at the uni i fear don’t encapsulate the space CAD created as it sometimes invites the wrong crowd who tend to misunderstand what exactly it is we fight for. Furthermore, i suffered a lot of prejudice from my town for being one of the only outwardly expressive alternative people. this was a big factor in my decline in mental health however when i went to uni and began meeting so many likeminded people at CAD, i began to transform into someone that could be free without the fear of being attacked for simply wearing the clothes i choose to. think about sophie lancaster and what happened to her. no, at uni i have not experienced it nearly as bad as what happened to her, but i mention her case because it highlights just how important these spaces can be for people. it’s not just alternative people either that benefit from this, the people who frequent this space are every aspect of gay, from every different point on the planet, and if any of them are met with disrespect in a space we fight so hard to make safe, we take care of one another. i have literally experienced this firsthand and the situation was dealt with swiftly and respectfully. finally, pls bring back CAD… i’m tired of hearing the same BOP songs over again. i want to hear the rock version of expresso please without being looked at as if i kicked a newborn
Being alternative in the modern day society is difficult, and alternative people often attract unwanted negative attention and bullying. The CAD night provides a space where alternative people can be who they are, without fear of that. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!
