Here at Winchester, we have a diverse range of students and pride ourselves on having an inclusive and friendly community. We aim to promote inclusion, participation and representation by creating safe spaces where you feel you belong, your voice can be heard, and positive change can be achieved through collective action.
This is a space for students to learn more about our inclusion work, as well as to explore and learn about inclusion in general.
If you have any suggestions, comments or feedback, we would love to hear from you! Fill out the Typeform below to have your say.
If you would like to have a chat about anything on this page or in general, please do contact the Student Union President, Alex at SU_PRES@winchester.ac.uk.
National Inclusion Week is a week dedicated to celebrating and encouraging inclusion – taking action to make your work, school, or friend group more inclusive. National Inclusion Week 2024 also provides an opportunity to address the challenges faced by marginalised groups and to work towards creating environments where everyone can thrive.
The theme for National Inclusion Week is ‘Impact Matters’. As such, we have provided a range of opportunities and resources to foster inclusion and educate our members on how they can make an impact!
Opportunities to make an impact
One Winchester Representatives - https://www.winchesterstudents.co.uk/onewinchester
Have a passion for equality, diversity, and inclusion? Want to make a difference in your Winchester Community?
We have our One Winchester representatives who are part of the Student Union’s wider equality work, including One Winchester and other outreach, activities and events. They work closely with the Student Union President to improve and grow equality and diversity in the University. This role is all about bringing creative and fresh ideas to benefit the wider University community. Our reps meet once and month and keep regular contact with our student groups, this is a collaborative scheme that aims to tackle EDI challenges with support from the Student Union.
Keep a lookout on our social media for One Winchester Rep recruitment, or alternatively email our President at SU_PRES@winchester.ac.uk for more info.

Representational networks at Winchester Student Union are student-led groups which have an increased focus on advocating equality, diversity and accessibility within specific underrepresented student groups to directly improve the experience of students from the background they represent.

Donations
The Union has various schemes and initiatives to provide things like period products, food, and clothing to students who need them. Why not consider donating some of these items to help others who may have use for them?
We accept donations of unwanted or unused clothes at our offices on Level 3 of the King Alfred Centre.
We also accept donations of non-perishable food and bathroom products.

One Winchester - One Winchester @ Winchester Student Union (winchesterstudents.co.uk)
One Winchester is an initiative created by Winchester Student Union to highlight different student groups, inclusivity, as well as create a platform for us all to come together as a Winchester Community.
Alongside our One Winchester Representatives, we also provide an online platform for students to read, watch, listen, give, etc... to numerous resources – learn something new and educate yourself on our community!

Participation Fund - Activities Participation Fund @ Winchester Student Union (winchesterstudents.co.uk)
Winchester Student Union recognises that some students encounter financial barriers to taking part in our activity groups (sports teams, societies, and representational networks). We believe that participating in our activities is an important part of extra-curricular life at Winchester, enhancing both wellbeing and learning while at university, and that no student should feel like they cannot take part or are at a disadvantage due to financial hardship.
The Activities Participation Fund is provided with support from the University of Winchester and managed by Winchester Student Union. The fund is to support students who are in need of additional financial support in order for them to access opportunities for participation in extra-curricular activities provided by the Student Union to enrich the student experience.
SayNo - Say No @ Winchester Student Union (winchesterstudents.co.uk)
We have a zero-tolerance approach towards hate crimes and hate incidents, and hold the view that bullying and harassment is never okay. We also have a zero-tolerance policy of initiations and initiation-type behaviour. We have provided some resources on how you can combat bullying and educate yourself on the damage these types of actions can cause.
EDI Dates
We celebrate a range of EDI dates at Winchester, which can be found here.
Student Guides - https://www.winchesterstudents.co.uk/studentguides
We have created Student Guide for our underrepresented students. Written in collaboration with our Representational Networks and the University, it is our privilege to present these to you.
Each guide shares unique student experiences from the groups they represent as well as introducing you to the Representational Networks and other support systems in place for you. Some of our guides offer recommendations for places to eat, shop and socialise as well as highlighting places of worship and prayer rooms, safe spaces and local facilities.
