Description

Who are we and what do we do?

The Commuting Students Network provides a platform for students who commute to connect with others facing similar circumstances. Many commuters find it challenging to fully engage in university life due to their outside commitments. This network aims to offer support, build connections, and create a sense of belonging for these students.

Every week, we aim to hold weekly session's within the Commuter’s Lounge that members can get involved in. Additionally, we will be hosting regular social events for commuting students to meet face-to-face and online in order to build up friendships. Want to find out about our upcoming events? Click here! You can stay up to date with us through our Instagram and TikTok accounts. Once you are an official member, you will be invited to a member-only WhatsApp and Facebook page. A member of the committee will email these over. To access all our social media's, resources, and more, make sure to check out our LinkTree!

The Commuter's Lounge

We also have our very own Commuter’s Network Lounge, with homely facilities designed to give commuting students a 'home from home'. The Lounge is situated next to Alwyn Car Park, about two minutes from the Kenneth Kettle Building. We have comfy sofas, dining table, microwave and fridge, a shower, lockers, network PCs and printer. In order to access the Lounge, you must live 5 miles or more from campus. The Lounge is open to all full-time student's, as long as you meet the 5 mile radius. Additionally, the Lounge is open to students who are both part time and mature, even if they live less than 5 miles away (please note you must be both mature and part time to be eligible).

How do I gain access to the commuter's lounge?

You can join the Commuting Students Network for a small fee of £5, joining the network will allow you to gain access to the Lounge! Once you have purchased your membership online, the activities team will need to verify that you live 5 miles or more from campus (or that you are both mature and part-time). Once the activities team have verified your membership, they will send you an email confirming your access to the Lounge. This email will also instruct you on how to get key-card access. Please do note gaining access to the lounge can take 3-5 business days, this can vary based on how busy the activities team is (e.g. fresher's week).
