At Winchester Student Union we want to ensure that all activity groups have the knowledge and empowerment to be in a position where they can effectively advertise their activity group and the things they are up to, whether this is their general sessions, an event, match days or fundraising they are doing. In order to achieve this goal we have built this page to have some helpful resources for our committees to use when looking to market their activity.

SU Social Media Takeovers

We are reintroducing Activity Group Takeovers on our instagram stories! This is an opportunity to showacse your activity group and what you are up to, if you have an event or fundraiser on this is a perfect opportunity to show yourselves off to the wider student community! This can also aid with member recruitment!

Social Media Advice

As a Student Union activity group, you are not only representing our image but the Univeristy's and anything that could negatively impact our image or reputation. Therefore make sure what you are posting is appropriate!

The general rule of thumb of what not to post (but is not limited to): excessive drinking, drinking events, nudity, profanities, unsociable behaviour. 

Remember that once something is on the internet, it is pretty much there forever! Especially with committee announcements, think is this something you would want your future employer to see?

 

Marketing yourself to sponsors

Sponsorships can be incredibly beneficial to not only your activity group but for the sponsor too. Follow this link to our sponsorships page where we have our template sponsorship contract and our top tips on how to contact potential sponsors!

 

How to get a quote from a Sabbitical Officer

If you are planning to write an article to promote your activity group or would like to update your members about a recent activity you have done, e.g. hosting an event, etc, and you would like a quote from a Sabbitical Officer (our Vice President Activities and Services, President or Vice President, Education and Welfare). Please register your interest by completing this typeform.

 

General Advice 

Be loud and proud: If you have done something exciting, or something is upcoming, tell us! We can re-post your achievements, events, and sessions on our Instagram @winch_su. Alongside this our Vice President Activities and Services also has their own instagram (@winchestervpas). Make sure to follow and tag them! 

Make yourselves approachable: Sometimes it's nice to have recognisable faces on your Social Media. Each year new committee's tend to do "Committee Introductions". This is a fun way to know who is who and their responsibilities within the committee, whilst also providing some fun facts and making things more personable. In social media messages, it can also be helpful to sign-off your messages with your name and committee roles, especially when multiple users hold access to accounts. 

Accessibility: Make sure your social media is inclusive by considering whether what your posting is accessible. It can be as simple as captioning your video's, providing descriptions of photos you post, and ensuring your posts are readable, a good text size, clear and concise. 

Multiple Social Media's: Try to be accomodating and try to use a range of platforms. A lot of groups will typically have Facebook and Instagram Pages for their Activity Groups. Now, there is also a huge popularity for Activity Group TikTok Pages, as a fun way to advertise. Make sure to let us know your social media pages so we can celebrate your successes. 

SU Website Pages: As an Activity Group, you all have Website Pages on the Winchester Student Union site. Keep them up-to-date, with important information.
