Election Results - Winchester Student Union Officer Election 2024/2025
Winchester Student Union Officer Elections took place from January to March 2024, with nominations from 22nd January 2024 until 15th February 2024. Following a period of Candidate Development, campaigning and voting took place from 26th February 2024 until 1st March 2024. Results were announced on 1st March 2024, as was the dates for a Student Officer By-election (to take place in March 2024) to fill the remaining unfilled Student Officer seat.
Total turnout for the Officer Election was 1639, or 22.36% of eligible voters (turnout 2023/2024, 1,487 or 22.42% - UK Student Union Average, 13.14%).
Congratulations to all candidates who ran in this year’s elections. They have all done a fantastic job running creative and positive campaigns, and the Student Union would like to congratulate all candidates, regardless of results.
All Officers-elect will formally take office on the 1st July 2024.
In the election of [Student Union President] the number of votes cast was [1535]. There is one vacancy and the quota to be elected was 50% of the valid votes cast.

As quota was met, Alexandra WILSON has been duly elected as your President 2024/2025.
In the election of [Vice President, Commercial] the number of votes cast was [1498]. There is one vacancy and the quota to be elected was 50% of the valid votes cast. Therefore, the quota for this position was [749] votes.

As no candidate reached quota we remove the candidates with the fewest votes, which are [RON & Jack Nevill] and transfer their next preference votes. Quota was reduced to 692.
In transfer stage one;
[Ella Maxwell] received [19] transfers for a total of [396]
[Emma Shorney] received [18] transfers for a total of [405]
[George Watkinson-Biddulph] received [26] transfers for a total of [582]
As no candidate reached quota, we remove the candidate with the fewest votes which is [Ella Maxwell] and transfer their next preference votes. Quota was reduced to 566.
In transfer stage two;
[Emma Shorney] received [64] transfers for a total of [469]
[George Watkinson-Biddulph] received [74] transfers for a total of [656]
As quota was met George Watkinson-Biddulph has been duly elected as your Vice President, Activities & Commercial 2024/2025.
In the election of [Vice President, Education & Welfare] the number of votes cast was [1386]. There is one vacancy and the quota to be elected was 50% of the valid votes cast. Therefore, the quota for this position was [744] votes.
In the election of Vice President, Education & Welfare there were [4] candidates;

[Lily Annis] received [385] 1st preference votes
[Eve Bidgood] received [331] 1st preference votes

As no candidate reached quota we remove the candidates with the fewest votes, which are [RON & Eve Bidgood] and transfer their next preference votes.
In transfer stage one;
[Lily Annis] received [68] transfers for a total of [453] votes
[Sal Fox] received [47] transfers for a total of [762] votes
As quota was met, Sal Fox has been duly re-elected as your Vice President, Education & Welfare 2024/2025.
In the election of [Student Officer] the number of votes cast was [1484]. There are four vacancies and the quota to be elected was 20% of the valid votes cast. Therefore, the quota for this position was [297] votes.

In stage one, Gemma Brownsword, Jet Gates & Khushi Pancholi met quota:

[Jet Gates] received [381] 1st preference votes
[Khushi Pancholi] received [485] 1st preference votes
[Olivia Wrightson] received [113] 1st preference votes
[RON] received [60] 1st preference votes
As noted, Gemma Brownsword, Jet Gates & Khushi Pancholi met quota and therefore have been duly elected.
As 1 further seat is available in this election, and as no further candidates reached quota, Gemma, Jet & Khushi’s surplus votes, above quota, were transferred to next preferences.
In stage 1 transfers, Olivia Wrightson met quota.
[Olivia Wrightson] received [269] transfers for a total of [382] votes.
[RON] received [26] transfers for a total of [86] votes.
As noted, Olivia Wrightson met quota and has therefore been duly elected. As no further seats remain, we remove the candidate with the fewest votes, which is RON.
I therefore can confirm that Gemma Brownsword, Jet Gates, Khushi Pancholi & Olivia Wrightson have been duly elected as your Student Officers for 2024/2025.
By-election results - Student Officer By-election 2024/2025
In the recent Student Union Officer Elections 2024 (results below), one fewer candidate stood for the position of part-time Student Officer than there were seats available (4 seats of our 5 were filled). As such, Winchester Student Union has held a Student Officer By-Election in March 2024 to fill the final remaining vacant Student Officer post.
Please find below the results of the Student Officer By-Elections 2024. Winchester Student Union would like to take a moment to firstly congratulate all candidates who ran in this year’s by-elections; all candidates should be proud of their campaign efforts, regardless of the result.
In the by-election of [Student Officer] the number of votes cast was [228]. There is one vacancy and the quota to be elected was 50% of the valid votes cast. Therefore, the quota for this position was [114] votes.
In the by-election of Student Officer there were [3] candidates;

Isobel Jones will join Gemma Brownsword, Jet Gates, Khushi Pancholi & Olivia Wrightson as your part-time Student Officer team 2024/25. All Officers-elect will formally take office on the 1st July 2024.
